I've heard of Waxy Links here and there. But until I actually visited there today for the first time, I didn't "get it". Now I get it. A lot of really interesting stuff there. Check it out.

OK I admit I could muck this up.

But I'm going to try upgrading my blog software. Hold still, this could hurt.

Update: The upgrade went pretty much without a hitch. I love when that happens. I'm now running on the next version of dasBlog 1.9. And I found this new theme, which I love so far.

SEO Theorist Michael Martinez shares an interesting list of 20 hard core SEO tips.

My favorites?

2. Add 5 new pages of content to your site every week

It's true. The more original content you have, the better. And if your content is growing steadily over time, people will bookmark your site and come back. Content, content, content.

15. Create a 1-page listing of 20 unknown web sites you wish you had created, and post it to your site.

You grow reputation by not only having quality content, but by pointing to other people's quality content. If you link to the same old sites everyone else is linking to (YouTube), it's not that significant to Google. And if you link to bad neighborhoods (like link farms, made for adsense sites, and the like), you'll ruin your own reputation with Google. But if you link to quality content, not only will your visitors be happy, but the big ol' Googlebot will too.

20. Define a metric of three to five factors that does not include Alexa, PageRank, Compete, or any of the common backlink checkers.

This one's hard. Basically, in order to stand out in a crowd you have to be different. You shouldn't do what one million other web sites are doing (comparing themselves to Alexa), you should come up with your own definition of success.

Here's a link to a controversial "document sharing" site, Scribd.

http://www.scribd.com/

I say controversial because people are using the service to share PDF's that contain copyrighted materials. But there are some really interesting free and open materials up there as well, including the final 9/11 commission report on what really happened on September 11th, and how to beat a lie detector test.

Apparently they can. While browsing Google News one night, I ran across a press release written by someone using a free press release service. Hmm, I've always wanted to write a press release and so I kept a note of that site for future reference.

Well, just for fun tonight I wrote a press release. Let's see if it will be picked up by Google News.

Take a look at that and let me know what you think in the comments.

Aaron Wall wrote a good post (with video) on some tips when naming pages in your site:

I'm in the process of doing SEO (optimizing a site for Google and other search engines) for a client, and so I am finding some really neat resources to help. I'll write a future post on some interesting tools I've found helpful along the way.

Egosurfing is defined as the practice of searching your own name on the Internet. From time to time I egosurf, popping my name into Google to see what comes up.

For the first time ever, I search my name on The Pirate Bay, the famous software, music and movie pirating web site. I was shocked to discover one of my books up there.

You know you've made it big when people are stealing your work. Life is good.
